- Norwich need to improve their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window.
- A new left-back is on the wishlist for Philippe Clement.
- Five left-backs who could be targets for the club this summer.
It is no secret that Norwich City are going to be in the market for a new left-back when the summer transfer window officially opens for business next month.
Kellen Fisher had to play 16 times at left-back in the 2025/26 campaign because of Lucien Mahovo, Ben Chrisene, and Jeffrey Schlupp’s injury issues.
Now, here are five left-backs Ben Knapper and Philippe Clement could target ahead of next season…
Harry Amass
Starting off with the obvious one, Norwich could explore a second deal for Harry Amass after his loan spell was ended after one appearance due to injury.
It was reported last month that the Canaries are expected to make a move for the English full-back to return to Carrow Road from Manchester United.
However, a recent article from the Pink Un cast doubt over his return because United may want him for their pre-season tour and Clement does not want to wait that long to get a left-back in the building.
Therefore, Amass’ return to Norwich seems to depend on whether or not Michael Carrick, provided he gets the permanent job at Old Trafford, wants the defender around for pre-season.
Jefte
Rangers sold Jefte to Palmeiras for £6m in the summer of 2025, 12 months after Clement and Nils Koppen brought him to Ibrox for just £800k.
The Brazilian played 39 times for the Belgian boss in all competitions, despite Clement leaving in February of that season, and he caught the eye with some impressive displays.
Jefte averaged 3.3 tackles and interceptions per game and provided four assists from a left-back berth in the Premiership, showing his ability to provide quality at both ends of the pitch.
| 24/25 Premiership | Jefte | Rank (Among LBs) |
| Assists | 4 | 3rd |
| Tackles Won | 58 | 5th |
| Interceptions | 34 | 8th |
| Duels Won | 142 | 2nd |
| Success Rate % | 62% | 5th |
However, he has been an unused substitute 16 times for Palmeiras in 2026, which suggests that there could be an opening to snap him up this summer.
The 22-year-old full-back is a player Clement knows well and rates highly and has only missed five games through injury in his senior career, which is why he could be an ideal signing at left-back this summer.
Dennis Cirkin
Dennis Cirkin’s contract at Sunderland is due to expire at the end of the Premier League season and there could be a big queue of clubs to land the proven Championship full-back.
The former Spurs youngster played 36 times in the second tier for the Black Cats in their promotion-winning campaign last year.
He also played 28 games when Sunderland reached the play-offs under Tony Mowbray in the 2022/23 season, which shows that the defender is no stranger to playing regularly in a promotion-chasing side.
The 24-year-old full-back, though, has missed 46 games through injury in the past three seasons and Norwich may not want to take a risk on his fitness with the issues that they already have in that position.
His age profile and experience in the Championship still make him an attractive target for Norwich and plenty of other teams in the second tier, so it could be one to watch in the coming weeks.
Jack Currie
Norwich could look to take advantage of Oxford United’s relegation to League One by raiding them for 24-year-old left-back Jack Currie.
Despite how his team performed over the season, the English defender caught the eye with his defensive contributions to the team, ranking highly among his positional peers.
| 25/26 Championship | Jack Currie | Rank (Among LBs) |
| Assists | 1 | 25th |
| Tackles | 79 | 10th |
| Interceptions | 45 | 12th |
| Duels Won | 154 | 5th |
| Success Rate % | 56.8% | 15th |
On top of excelling as an out-and-out defender, Currie created 2.32 xA in 30 appearances in the Championship, which shows that he can also offer a creative threat.
The 24-year-old has played at least 34 games in all four of his seasons at first-team level and played at least 41 times in three of those four campaigns.
This suggests that he has the durability to be available on a regular basis for Norwich, which is exactly what Clement needs.
Marko Divkovic
Norwich have raided the Danish Superliga for Johannes Hoff Thorup, Pelle Mattsson, Oscar Schwartau, and Mathias Kvistgaarden in recent years, with varied success.
If they want to explore the Danish market once more, Brondby left-back Marko Divkovic would be an interesting target.
He is in the prime years of his career, at 26, and would add an experienced option to complement Mahovo and Chrisene’s youth, without being over the hill.
Divkovic has played 27 times in the Superliga so far this season and provided an impressive attacking threat, scoring four goals and creating seven ‘big chances’ for his teammates.
The Croatian defender is a curious player because he has also played as a left-footed right winger, which Norwich also need, at times this season and played as a centre-forward earlier in his career.
His ability to play in other positions, particularly in the attack, could make him an interesting option for Norwich because it would allow Chrisene or Mahovo to play more minutes, as he can occupy other roles.
Having a versatile left-footed player who can offer cover at left-back, left wing, and right wing could be a big boost to Clement’s side next season.
