- Ben Chrisene set to miss the rest of the season through injury.
- The left-back has been playing through pain to get on the pitch recently.
- Norwich without a starting left-back option for the 14th time this season.
Norwich City have been hit with yet another injury blow in a season that has been defined by injury blows.
The Canaries travel to play Bristol City this weekend in their penultimate away game of the 2025-26 campaign.
They will be without a starting option at left-back for the 14th time in all competitions this season, after Ben Chrisene was ruled out by Philippe Clement.
Ben Chrisene set for surgery
The former Aston Villa defender is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to a shoulder injury that has been plaguing him for some time.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Clement confirmed that the full-back has been “playing through pain” as he has been “struggling” with the shoulder problem.
Chrisene is now set to see a consultant on Monday to go through next steps and surgery is expected to resolve the issue.
This means that the England U20 international will end the season with 21 out of 46 matches missed through various injuries.
Kellen Fisher will once again have to deputise at left-back – for the 14th time this season – while Jack Stacey could stay at right-back despite his struggles against Ipswich in the derby last weekend.
Where Norwich’s other left-backs are…
In the same press conference, Clement revealed that Lucien Mahovo will be back in training next week and that it will take him time to get back in contention to play.
That means that the former Notts County full-back may not feature again this season, as there is only a few weeks left of the campaign.
Harry Amass has already returned to Manchester United after having his season ended by injury, so he will not feature in the last four games either.
In more positive news, Jeffrey Schlupp will be back in the squad to face Bristol City.
However, he has been out since the 5th November, and it remains to be seen whether or not he will be fit enough to start any of the last four games.
What Clement may do against Bristol City…
Because of this frustrating injury blow, Clement may have to select the same full-back pairing that struggled last weekend, playing Fisher out of position at left-back and Stacey at right-back.
Norwich have lost two of the last three games that Stacey and Fisher have started as the full-back pairing, which is a cause for concern.
There could be a change in the heart of the defence, though, as Ruairi McConville has been back in training for two weeks and could replace Harry Darling for this game.
We at Read Norwich suggested that Chrisene should replace Stacey for this match, but that cannot happen after this big injury blow.
