- Bim Pepple is attracting attention from Championship teams.
- Highly self-motivated with impressive goalscoring record.
- Possible linkup with fellow Canadian Ali Ahmed?
After unearthing a gem in Jovon Makama, it appears Norwich City could be in the running to sign League One’s Bim Pepple.
Appeal
The main reason teams have been looking at Pepple is his impressive goalscoring record, having scored 16 goals in his last 23 games for Plymouth Argyle.
Watford and Portsmouth are among the others that are on the lookout for Pepple, with reports suggesting he could earn as much as three times his salary.
Manager Tom Cleverley also confirmed that he does have a release clause in his contract, something that may get activated with Plymouth just missing out on the League One playoffs.
Advantage
One possible advantage that Norwich City have in the race to sign Pepple is fellow Canadian compatriot Ali Ahmed.
There is often an appeal for players to go to a team with people from their homeland. From a professional point of view, having a winger on his wavelength may also add to the potential attraction.
Given both will aspire to be part of this year’s World Cup, it would be a good time for Ahmed to mention his time at Norwich, given he has seemed very positive in interviews about both the place and the atmosphere in the dressing room.
Shop window
Canadian coach Jesse March did call up Pepple once before but it is not surprising that national coaches want their squad to be playing at as high a level as possible to elevate their chances of succeeding on the international stage.
The chance for him to develop under a top rated manager like Phillipe Clement may well be another factor that could sway his decision over rival Championship suitors.
Motivated
One thing that should encourage Norwich City fans is Pepple’s dedication to self-improvement. He took personal steps to improve his diet and hired his own performance coach in order to get himself to a higher level.
This is likely to be a factor that will attract Clement’s attention, especially given his concerns over the Norwich squad’s fitness issues at the start of the season.
Will it happen?
Names like Bim Pepple will be thrown out during this transfer window speculation season and it may well be that the actual targets are still under the radar.
That being said, looking at gaps in Norwich’s squad and his record he does seem like the ideal candidate to bolster an already exciting attacking unit.
