Norwich City confirmed departures: Duffy and Schlupp headline 2026 released list

  • Duffy and Schlupp headline senior departures as Norwich City reshapes squad.
  • Marcondes also leaves Carrow Road as recruitment strategy pivots again.
  • Departures will provide flexibility and cash for summer transfer business.

While there remains a 0.7 per cent chance of this season extending beyond the 46 games, work has been ongoing for a while to prep Norwich City for the 2026 summer transfer window.

Part of that is the messy task of deciding who goes and who stays, and this afternoon the club made public its finalised list, signalling a clear transition in the first-team squad profile.

Under Philippe Clement and Ben Knapper, the club is effectively reducing (again) the average age of the playing squad, while freeing up some cash by not renewing some sizeable contracts.

Senior player departures

One of the most unsurprising departures from the senior squad is that of Shane Duffy. The experienced Irishman’s contract is set to expire this June, and the club has opted against offering an extension.

Duffy, who’s played only a minor role this season, leaves as part of a strategic shift towards a more mobile and modern defensive unit (and one that makes more judicious use of social media).

Joining him is Jeffrey Schlupp, whose twelve-month stay at Carrow Road reaches its conclusion. Despite his versatility and extensive top-flight experience, he was never able to make his mark in a season beset by injury.

This is another departure that will, for now at least, significantly reduce the age profile of the squad, and free up some big wages.

The other notable departure, one we already knew about, is Emiliano Marcondes, whose tenure ends along with the end of his contract.

The Danish ‘number 10’, who arrived with a reputation for creative flair and versatility in the final third, struggled to make his mark in Clement’s team.

It feels as if he has never been forgiven for a half-hearted attempt at tracking back at Preston, which led to a PNE equaliser in injury time.

He provided flashes of technical quality during his time here, but never had the mobility or hunger required in a Clement side.

His exit gives the recruitment team additional scope to identify other players more suited to the Clement profile.

And finally…

Tony Springett and Daniel Barden, both academy graduates, will also become free agents this summer after concluding their long-standing associations with the Canaries. Springett played a few games this season to some good effect, but was way down the list when everyone is fit.

The other item of note was the ending of the half-season loans of Sam Field and Harry Amass, who will return to QPR and Manchester United, respectively.
