Norwich City open talks to sign Premiership central defender
  • Norwich City make contact over summer transfer deal.
  • Philippe Clement is looking to add a centre-back to his ranks.
  • The Canaries face competition to secure this defender’s signature.

Norwich City are looking to sign a centre-back to compete with Jose Cordoba for a starting berth in the 2026/27 campaign.

Philippe Clement wants to sign a left-footed defender to add more depth to the squad, because he only has one senior player who can play that role.

Ruairi McConville, Jakov Medic, Harry Darling, and incoming academy talent Vinnie Leonard are all right-footed defenders.

Norwich make contact to sign Premiership star

It was recently reported that the club had joined a host of clubs in the race to sign Dundee centre-back Luke Graham this summer.

However, they were just one of a number of teams mentioned at the time, with the likes of Salzburg and Schalke also keen.

Now, TEAMtalk reports that Norwich City have made contact with Dundee to open talks to sign the Scottish talent in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The report claims that Clement views him as a left-sided option for his defence and that the club have made the first step towards signing him by initiating contact with the Premiership outfit.

However, TEAMtalk adds that Scottish giants Rangers are ‘determined’ to sign him and have already agreed personal terms with the left-footed star.

Dundee are said to be holding out for offers in excess of £1.5m, but they look set to cash in on him because his contract is due to expire in the summer of 2027.

A Kenny McLean repeat

The last time that Norwich signed a first-team player from the Premiership was when they swooped to bring in Kenny McLean from Aberdeen in January 2018.

He, of course, went back out on loan to the Dons for the rest of that season before linking up with Daniel Farke’s side for the 2018/19 Championship campaign, and the rest is history.

McLean has racked up 310 appearances in all competitions for the Canaries to date, and is set to sign a new two-year contract at Carrow Road.

He made an almost seamless transition from the Premiership to win two titles in three years in Norfolk with Farke at the helm.

Now, Graham could look to emulate that success with Clement in the dugout, by joining to be part of a promotion push.

Norwich look primed to be one of the top contenders for promotion in the 2026/27 campaign, which is why they should be an attractive option.

Hopefully, Clement’s reputation as a manager and the club’s status as a Championship challenger will help to get a deal over the line.
