- What Norwich City players are going to the World Cup?
- Will the long Championship season affect their form?
- Will we see some potential future transfers at the tournament?
After one of the toughest and most unpredictable of Norwich City seasons, a number of players won’t have too long to enjoy the beach. Here are squad members who could well be going to the 2026 World Cup.
Jose Cordoba (Panama)
One of Phillipe Clement’s biggest achievements in his short spell was improving players already in the team and Cordoba is a great example. His experience should give him confidence going into the tournament.
Ali Ahmed (Canada)
A January arrival, Ali Ahmed started brightly but dividing his time between the MLS and Championship season did seem to catch up with him toward the end.
That being said he provided more width and some exciting link-up play with the likes of Anis Ben Slimane and Mohammed Toure so he is a great prospect for next season.
Potential Norwich City target Bim Pepple is also a fellow Canadian, so there may be an opportunity for Ali to encourage him to take a look at life in Norfolk!
Kenny McLean (Scotland)
Kenny McLean sealed Scotland’s qualification with an insane half-way line goal effort, thus ensuring inappropriate cries of “SHOOT” increased at Carrow Road by 42.5 per cent (these statistics are totally made up).
A late season injury is a cause for concern but if he can get fit his quality and his character will be massive boost for the Tartan Army.
Anis Ben Slimane (Tunisia)
Another player who has blossomed under Clement’s tutelage, his country will benefit from his smartness and trickery.
Hopefully he can bring this to the tournament and further boost his progress.
Mohammed Toure (Australia)
Alongside Paris Maghoma, Mohammed Toure was one of the January signings that livened up the squad.
His goalscoring record is impressive and would have been more so had it not been for an unfortunate injury.
The world stage is another great opportunity for him to hone his skills and add to his already impressive tally. Just don’t try to be too clever with the penalities this time!
Future stars?
Norwich City fans may well be keeping an eye on the World Cup for more than just the football.
True, some players have shined in tournaments and then not transferred that form into playing for a league club.
But there is always the chance we could unearth another gem along the lines of Ahmed or Toure.
