Southend eye deal for released Norwich defender

Southend United are interested in signing former Norwich centre-back Michael Turner, according to The Echo.

Turner was released by Norwich at the end of last season, having failed to start for the senior team in any competition during the campaign. He made a total of 76 appearances for Norwich over the four-year period he was with the club, scoring four goals. He was part of the squad that saw Norwich win the Championship play-offs in 2015 to gain promotion.

Southend are currently managed by Phil Brown, who worked with Turner during his time at Hull. Brown could be looking to link back up with the Englishman, whilst Turner would have the chance to reunite with Anton Ferdinand, whom he played with at Sunderland.

Southend play in League 1, and last season finished 7th, missing out on the play-offs by a single point. The Shrimpers would hope that Turner will strengthen their defence as they push for promotion.
