Norwich were left to rue on a second half contrastingly different to their first-half performance, which saw Leeds United through to the League Cup Quarter Finals on penalties.
Alex Pritchard’s first half goal was equalised just before half time, before Nelson Oliveria’s almost winner in the 99th minute, proved to not be enough to see Leeds once again fight back and for the game to enter penalties, which would see it end only one way for the Canaries.
Twitter tells the perfect tale to the sequence of the matches so let’s see what was said throughout the game:
Though it seems as though a penalty changed the main opinion on Pritchard’s performance, the diminutive midfielder grabbed his first goal for the club and impressed for much of the match.
Twitter: Pritchard has to be starting more regularly, the lad is quality!
#ncfc (@ewanwilson99)
Twitter: Pritchard looking decent again he links up with everyone perfectly gotta play him every game we can #ncfc (@tommykerrison)
Twitter: How does Alex Pritchard not start every game for us? What a player. (@GeorgeGookNCFC)
However, there was another player who impressed City fans and could look to pressure further game time out of Alex Neil – and if his appreciation of fans at the end of the game despite being injured will help him further to become a fan’s favourite.
Twitter: Thompson almost Howsonesque in his runs forward, already good enough for first team in my opinion, big future #ncfc (@michaelaiden_)
Twitter: Louis Thompson has looked excellent! Has to get in the first team with Howson out #ncfc (@hogesar)
Twitter: And I’ve said it before. I’d rather blood Thompson next to Dorrans than tettey. More mobile and composed. (@Tants7)
Twitter: Wouldn’t be disappointed if I saw Thompson’s name over Tettey in the future #ncfc (@SugzNcfc)
Twitter: Thanks to Pritchard and Louis Thompson (who was dead) at being the only players to come over and clap. #ncfc https://t.co/bpQTV6Oqwi (@Markooskoos)
So how did Twitter react when Nelson Oliveria found the net on the 99th minute, seemingly guaranteeing the quarter-finals.
Twitter: Nelson! Made up for a dreadful performance
#ncfc (@chrisg9NC)
Twitter: 1-2!!! Oliveria!!! 99th minute!!! Come on let’s see it through now!!! #ncfc #COYY
(@HoldingBenjamin)
However, things were not to be, Chris Wood equalised seeing the Canaries head to the dreaded penalties, only to see themselves knocked out.
Twitter: @ReadNorwich i can do it in two. Typical Norwich (@lewythompson)
Twitter: @ReadNorwich heartbreaking but predictable (@anorwichfan)
Twitter: @ReadNorwich same old norwich (@gldavey73)
Twitter: Worse things happening in the world than losing to Leeds on penalties folks. #ncfc (@mattjohnson333)
Whilst others looked towards the Checkatrade trophy:
Twitter: Well there’s still the checkatrade trophy (@machinestead)
But the game did have one fascinating thing about it:
Twitter: The game finished at 22.22 as well! I just cant believe it! 22,222 watching. Score 2-2. I JUST CANT BELIEVE IT #lufc #ncfc (@desmond_twotwo)
