Howson: Signings will make the difference for Norwich

Norwich City’s January new boys have made the difference for their new club in their fight to stay in the Premier League, Jonny Howson has told the Pink’Un.

While it took two months to get their first taste of victory in the famous yellow and green shirt, four of Norwich’s new signings featured in their vital away win at West Brom before the international break.

But undoubtedly the most impressive of the lot, Timm Klose, has revolutionised the City defence that had looked so penetrable all season. The Swiss international is yet to miss a minute of action for his new side since his debut, in a humbling home defeat to title challengers Spurs.

The comparative City veteran in Jonny Howson said:

He’s certainly a bit of a character. I think whenever you sign an international player, you are expecting them to come in and put in good performances. That’s why he has played at that level and in the Champions League, and it’s starting to show.”

Obviously sometimes it’s going to take a couple of games to get used to the people in and around him, playing in a different league. But he’s been doing very well.

There have been a few signings from January and that can help. Sometimes those new faces just freshen things up and maybe get people on their toes knowing that someone else is coming in for your place, whoever it may be.

Howson is under no illusions on just how season-defining the next few games are, with City returning to league action this weekend hosting fellow strugglers Newcastle.

Whenever you’re down there and coming up against the teams in and around you, that’s why they’re called six pointers.

But I think every game from now until the end of the season is going to be like that. We’ve got to try to get something from every single game between now and the end of the season. We’ve kind of set the standard now but every game is different.

You come up against different problems, different teams and our team might be different. But certainly if we’ve got everyone pulling in the same direction, then we give ourselves a great chance.
