Our player of pre-season: 2017

Norwich City ended their 2017 pre-season on Saturday with a 1-1 draw at home to Brighton at Carrow Road.

Daniel Farke completed the summer with an impressive record, finishing unbeaten going into the start of the competitive season.

The Canaries won six of their eight pre-season clashes, with two draws making up the list of results.

Norwich beat Cobh Ramblers, Lowestoft, Cambridge, Duisburg, Bielefeld and Charlton, whilst they were also held by Stevenage and Brighton.

We hand out our own man of the match award after each game and we have collated that data to announce our player of the pre-season for this summer.

The two with the most awards are tied on two; Mario Vrancic and Christoph Zimmermann.

Having to decide which one was better, on the whole, has been difficult, but I have gone Christoph Zimmermann as my player of pre-season for 2017!

The towering central defender played every minute of pre-season before the Charlton match, amassing just under 600 minutes of football without rest.

Zimmermann was a crucial part of Norwich’s four clean sheets in their eight games, with his excellent performances at the back.

Coming from the fourth tier of German football, Zimmermann has adapted to life in England very quickly and has shown his ability as a leader on the pitch as well. You notice straight away that he likes to organise and talk to his teammates during the game, something that was far too scarce amongst players last season.

He is expected to make his competitive debut against Fulham next Saturday in the Championship.
