Norwich manager, Alex Neil, has admitted there is much work ahead for his team before next season as the Canaries crashed to a 3-0 defeat to a managerless Everton side in the final game of a rather disappointing season for his side.
Goals from James McCarthy, a penalty from Leighton Baines and Kevin Mirallas meant Norwich finished the season in 19th place as Newcastle comfortably beat Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 to conclude a Premier League season full of surprises.
Neil told Norwich City TV:
There will be discussions ongoing this week, so it will be jam-packed in terms of planning for next season. It’s been a tough season, a season where we found ourselves in a good situation a few weeks ago but we didn’t take advantage of it and we’ve paid the price. This side of it hurts, it’s difficult, but what we’ve got to do is bounce back stronger and refocus. Everyone who’s going to be there has got to get in that mindset.
There had been the suggestion among fans that Neil could follow departed Chief Executive, David McNally, out the exit door. However, the Scot confirmed that despite the hard work ahead; he is not afraid of the challenge of bringing Norwich back up a second time under his leadership.
Work needs to be done, all sorts of things really to make sure we’re in the best possible shape. I will now do everything in my power to make sure we’re as strong as we can be for next season.
It is set to be a busy summer at Carrow Road with the future unknown for some of their highly-rated players. It remains to be seen whether Timm Klose, Nathan Redmond or Steven Naismith will still be in Norfolk when the first ball is kicked again in August. However, it seems that Alex Neil will still be in charge to lead Norwich into what will be a very competitive Championship league next season.
