Jarvis disappointed with City’s failure to pick up point

Midfielder Matt Jarvis spoke to the press following Norwich City’s 1-0 defeat against Crystal Palace, seeing the Canaries fall six points behind the Eagles and relying on results around them to maintain their 17th place in the table.

Jarvis played the majority of the game before being subbed off for Nathan Redmond in the 76th-minute and could have helped win a penalty when the 29-year-old fell to the ground in the box, having been pushed by Damien Delaney.

Whilst speaking to Norwich City TV, Jarvis insisted his team should have been awarded a penalty by referee Michael Oliver in the first half:

I thought [we should have had a penalty]. I just gambled on the flick on, jumped, and took it on my chest and got wiped out but he gave a corner, which was bizarre. [Michael Oliver] said it wasn’t a foul.

Jarvis also expressed his disappointment in the Canaries falling to defeat after a good run in recent weeks, despite feeling they had done enough to win a point away from home.

We’re really disappointed. We thought we deserved to come away with at least a point. There were loads of chances in the game but I think a 0-0 draw would have been a fair result.

On Jason Puncheon’s goal, Jarvis praised the midfielder but also offered his praise towards City’s defensive performance.

It was a great finish but really disappointing from our side. We defended well, I think we’ve shown over the last few weeks how well we can defend and attack.

I think we created numerous opportunities that just didn’t fall our way and ultimately we paid the price.

It’s disappointing as we got in the right positions but we couldn’t get the right finish into the back of the net and test the goalie.

Jarvis also spoke about the result impacting the table, with Palace edging away from the relegation zone but the 29-year-old hopes to see the team “bounce back” against Sunderland in City’s next fixture.

Obviously we’re extremely disappointed we didn’t get anything from the game but we need to make sure we bounce back next week against Sunderland at home.

It’s that time of the year that each game gets bigger and bigger, and next week is massive, especially being at home, and if we can get that win, it really gives us a big jump.

We really wanted to make sure we got something out of the game and we’re really disappointed we didn’t but we need to make sure our home form continues and get a good result on Saturday.

matchday.
