Neil: We need to turn performances into points

Norwich Cty boss Alex Neil hopes his team can start converting positive performances in the last few games into points as the Canaries take on West Brown at The Hawthorns tomorrow.

Despite being on a winless streak since January 2, City has seen close run-ins against the likes of Chelsea and Leicester, with City’s first point since February 13 coming in a 0-0 draw against Manchester City. However, the game showed much positivity with Patrick Bamford’s first start nearly ending in a goal.

Speaking to Norwich City TV, the 34-year-old manager said his team is raring to go with a newfound confidence in recent weeks.

The players know that they’ve got to do and they’re all desperate to get into that starting eleven and make a difference.

Performances in the last five or six weeks have been good but we need to turn them into points.

[The team’s performances] will give the players confidence. They’ve looked confident this week and they’ve worked hard this week.

Alex Neil knows the importance of grabbing vital points in the upcoming games, with his team also facing Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Sunderland next month.

This set of games coming up is really important, starting on Saturday.

However, the City boss knows their opponents will not make things easy for the Canaries, with the Baggies unbeaten at home in 2016 and coming off the back of vital points against Manchester United, Leicester, Crystal Palace and Everton in recent weeks.

We’ve obviously got to take into consideration how they play and what their threats are.

They dig out results. There are a few games I’ve watched where they haven’t played particularly well, but they managed to grind a result out, like against Everton recently.

Despite being a danger on set-pieces, Alex Neil knows how he should approach tomorrow’s game and how City could turn their performances into points.

43 per cent of their goals have come from set-pieces, so they’re obviously a danger in that regard but we have to focus on what we’re good at.

We want to take the game to them. The first goal in this match will be crucial – both teams, when they’ve scored first, have a good record.

matchday.
