Out-of-favour Norwich City right-back, Steven Whittaker, could be in line for a move to the Championship after Reading boss Brian McDermott confirmed he’s a fan of the Scottish international as reported by the Eastern Daily Press.
Whittaker has become surplus to requirements for the Canaries this season, having only made nine appearances in all competitions and not having featured in a Premier League game since October’s 6-2 drubbing at the hands of Newcastle in the North-East.
McDermott admitted he liked Whittaker but stopped short of saying whether a bid would be made:
I know Steven well and he’s a good player, but he’s a Norwich player. If we could get two really good right-backs along with the two really good left-backs we have and strikers that score then all of a sudden you’ve got something going.
With first-team opportunities set to decrease further due to the signing of Ivo Pinto from Dinamo Zagreb, Whittaker may feel it is time to end his three and a half year stay in Norfolk and seek a move elsewhere.
Having signed on a free transfer from Rangers in 2012, Whittaker has made 91 appearances for Norwich scoring six times. He has contributed this season by scoring in the 3-1 win against Sunderland and also by getting sent off against Southampton as Norwich lost 3-0 at St Marys.
