Norwich City FC have announced that central defender Sebastian Bassong has signed a new two year extension on his contract to stay in Norfolk for the foreseeable future- canaries
After signing his new deal, Bassong told www.canaries.co.uk “I’m very happy to have signed this contract.”
After expressing his delight at the new deal,he went on to talk about his journey so far in the yellow and green.
“It’s been an enjoyable time recently, getting promoted and achieving what we wanted to achieve. It provided great satisfaction for all of us.
As well as how well he feels in the team and the faith that Alex Neil has shown in him
“I enjoy playing for this team. Bit by bit, it is getting better and I feel better, and the manager has played a big part in that. I owe him a lot because he gave me my chance back in the team.”
This comes as the latest chapter of a major turn around for the 29 year old defender. It had seemed as though his Norwich career was over last season after a row with former Norwich manager Neil Adams led to him being sent out on loan to Watford for a portion of last season.
Alex Neil then took over at Norwich and brought Bassong in from the cold, which led to Bassong becoming one of our most reliable defenders and a vital asset within the squad.
This news will be met with a lot of gratitude from Norwich fans to Alex Neil. Whereas this may not be a new signing. It is still a very shrewd move to lock up one of our key performers for the coming seasons as Alex Neil clearly has a lot of faith in the former Tottenham central defender.
Manager Alex Neil reaffirmed his faith with his comments about Bassong following the deal.
“If you look through the spine of the team, it’s not something I change that often and Seb has been a big part of that.
“He’s performed extremely well since I’ve been here, and he’s been a really good influence around the place as well which is great.”
