After a disastrous spell in Scotland with Rangers (in their eyes), manager Philippe Clement has picked up where he left off since taking on the Norwich City job and for a maiden partial season in charge at Carrow Road, with his first experience of the English second tier Championship, his 9th placed finish in the table was creditable.
Loyal Canaries fans are hoping for far more in the 2026/27 campaign though, and it is not unfair to say that it has been a horrible start, whichever way you cut the back to back opening defeats to West Bromwich Albion and Millwall. There are positives to be taken from our start to this season’s domestic League Cup run though, we pretty comfortably put MK Dons to the sword 4-1 on hoe soil, and in the recent trip to Wales to face Cardiff City in the second round, we came out 2-1 on top.
Clearly work needs to be done in the league competition itself, but the odds of doing just that will be favourable on the best betting sites, but we will be hoping for that exact improvement when we welcome in Burnley for this Saturday’s clash. Three points there could materially change August’s outlook on the table with us sitting in 23rd place with zero points, but nobody who knows football will be panicking just yet and the gaffer himself was very pleased with some of the play and the performance we levels we saw in the Cardiff clash, although their stoppage time consolation to not keep the clean sheet was a disappointment.
The performance of on loan Fenerbahce winger, Anthony Musaba, was a particular delight for the 52 year old Belgian, and he is very hopeful that with fellow summer capture Andre Brooks, that they will make a telling difference together moving forward and give us the options he felt we were sorely lacking last campaign when it came to breaking down a low block.
Whilst the upcoming league clash will no doubt be front and centre for most fans, the draw for the third round of the League Cup has now taken place, and just like former years, we now welcome in those Premier League sides who find themselves in European competition this season. Some will think typically, others in the fan base may be relishing this, but our progress so far has now seen us rewarded with an away trip to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City.
Although Pep Guardiola has now moved on, City lifted this trophy five times under his charge and it will be promoted as one of the glamour ties – and likely see us picked by one of the broadcasters with the rights for screening on the tele box. We last met them in Premier League action back in February 2022, and we will be hoping to scalp them once again as we did under Daniel Farke back in September 2018.
