- Norwich want to sign a new left-sided centre-back this summer.
- The Canaries are one of many clubs looking at a Premiership star.
- The young central defender could make perfect sense for Norwich.
Norwich City look set to be busy in the upcoming summer transfer window, as Ben Knapper attempts to bolster Philippe Clement’s squad.
The Pink Un have reported that the Canaries are looking at a left-sided centre-back as one of the areas that they would like to strengthen.
They are also hoping to sign a right winger, a left-back, and a central midfielder to add extra quality to the group.
Norwich eyeing Premiership defender
According to Portsmouth-based outlet The News, Norwich City are one of a number of clubs eyeing a summer swoop for Dundee star Luke Graham.
The report claims that a host of teams, including Portsmouth, are hoping to snap up the Scottish Premiership talent in the off-season.
Schalke, Valencia, Sturm Graz, Salzburg, Derby County, Lincoln City, and Preston North End are among the teams challenging Portsmouth and Norwich in the race to sign the left-footed defender.
The News adds that a deal in the region of £1.5m would be enough to reach an agreement with Dundee for the defender, who would like to explore a challenge away from Scotland.
Rangers and Celtic are both eyeing him up ahead of the summer window, but the 22-year-old wants to try his luck in a new country.
Makes sense for Norwich
Norwich are looking for a young left-footed centre-back to play a supporting role behind Jose Cordoba, who is the clear first-choice in that position.
The Panama international was a Player of the Season contender after his performances for Clement in the Championship this season, which means that the club should not be looking for an immediate upgrade.
Signing a younger player, such as Graham, makes more sense for the Canaries because he can initially come in as a back-up, with the potential to develop into a starter.
Across a 46-game season, the Scottish youngster will get plenty of opportunities to start in the Championship, particularly with Cordoba’s injury issues.
Norwich could, therefore, be an attractive option for the Dundee star because there is game time on offer, as well as the chance to be part of an exciting promotion-contending team managed by Clement.
Graham is an ambitious player, as outlined by his boss Steven Pressley earlier this year, and Norwich are an ambitious team who look to be on the up.
That means that this deal could be a match made in heaven for the Canaries if they can steal a march on their rivals to bring the central defender to Norfolk this summer.
