Norwich City join the race to sign French forward
  • Norwich City eye Lille winger Ichem Ferrah to boost attack.
  • Canaries join transfer race for French forward after loan success.
  • Left-footed attacker Ichem Ferrah emerges as summer target.

Norwich City are looking to sign a new winger who could fill a hole in Philippe Clement’s current squad.

It has been well reported that the Canaries want to bring in a right winger to add to the group in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Liam Gibbs, Amankwah Forson, Jack Stacey, and even Harry Amass have had to fill in on the right flank at times because of the club’s lack of options in that position.

Now, Ben Knapper is said to be pursuing a young attacker who could arrive as a natural option in that role for Clement.

Norwich join the race to sign French forward

According to Foot Mercato reporter Sebastien Denis, Norwich City are one of a host of clubs interested in a deal to sign Lille forward Ichem Ferrah.

The 20-year-old talent just spent the season on loan at Cambuur in the second tier of football in the Netherlands, and his form has attracted interest from several teams.

Along with Norwich, Genk, Copenhagen, Feyenoord, and Malmo are said to be eyeing up a possible swoop for the French winger in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Denis claims that Ferrah is heading towards an exit from Lille because of the uncertainty around the managerial position at the French club.

He has 12 months left on his contract at Lille and Norwich could pounce if they do not reward him with an extension.

However, the volume of and stature of clubs interested in the left-footed attacker suggests that it will not be an easy deal for the club to get over the line.

Does it make sense for Norwich?

Norwich are in the market for a left-footed right winger to bolster their squad, so signing Ferrah makes sense in that respect because that is what he is.

The 20-year-old talent also showed strong form in the 2025/26 campaign, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists in the second tier of Dutch football.

He completed 2.5 dribbles per game, more than any Norwich player managed in the Championship, and looks to be the direct winger that the Canaries were crying out for this season.

However, the concern with this particular link is that he is a young player who is coming off the back of playing at a relatively low level.

It is hard to predict whether or not his performances would scale up to the Championship and if he would be able to play a key role in a promotion-winning campaign for Norwich.

The Canaries have taken similar risks in the past, though, such as when they signed Emi Buendia after he had been relegated from LaLiga 2, so it is a move that could see them hit the jackpot.

If Ferrah does end up making the move to Norfolk this summer, it would be an understandable gamble by the club.
