Norwich head coach Daniel Farke has backed goalkeeper Tim Krul to earn a recall to the Netherlands international squad.
Farke says that he has spoken with Dutch boss Ronald Koeman and says that Krul deserves to be called up by his country next month.
Speaking to The Pink’Un, Farke said:
I don’t want to give advice to Ronald. He is an experienced coach. I did meet him. He knows what to do but when you watch such a game and how big an impact Tim has then without a doubt you have to say he is one of the best keepers in this league this season.
It would be well deserved for Tim to get a call up. He was fantastic again in this (Liverpool) game.
READ NORWICH VERDICT
It can be very difficult to judge goalkeepers with basic stats. For example, save percentage tells you very little about someone’s ability as it does not tell you where the shots have come from or the type of save they are making.
A flying save to tip a shot out of the top corner counts the same as a weak effort rolling along the floor straight into their hands.
With goalkeepers, I think you have to judge with your eyes. This season, Krul has impressed in plenty of games, making some sensational saves to keep Norwich in games at times.
Against Liverpool at the weekend, he made an unbelievable stop to deny Naby Keita from point-blank range after he did well to parry a deflected effort from Mohamed Salah.
He’s also saved penalties from Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this season – although the latter was retaken due to encroachment from Max Aarons.
This shows how he has stepped up to Premier League level this season, due to the quality of saves he is making from top-class players. It will now be interesting to see if Koeman has been impressed enough to hand him a call-up ahead of this summer’s European Championships.
