Tottenham will look at Meunier if they fail to land Aarons

Tottenham could reportedly make a move for PSG defender Thomas Meunier as an alternative to Norwich right-back Max Aarons this summer.

Football.london claim that Tottenham will look at Meunier if they fail to land Aarons at the end of the season.

The report claims that Aarons remains Tottenham’s number one target in terms of right backs, but that they could swoop for Meunier if Norwich reject their advances.

The Express reported in January that Norwich were looking for a fee in the region of £40m to let Aarons go. It will be interesting to see how that figure fluctuates should Norwich go down at the end of the season.

If Norwich are a Championship club once again, can they realistically demand a fee of £40m for Aarons? That may depend on what Aarons wants and if he is willing to stay with the Canaries for another season in the second tier in an attempt to help them go back up.

The allure of potential European football with Spurs could be tempting, especially when faced with the prospect of Barnsley and Wigan away in the Championship. However, it is a good sign for Norwich that Spurs are looking elsewhere in the transfer window as it could mean that they are not 100% confident of being able to land Aarons.

If that is the case, it shows that Norwich are prepared to be resilient and not let their star players go without a fight. This could bode well for the summer window, if Norwich are relegated, as they look to keep hold of the likes of Teemu Pukki, Aarons, Todd Cantwell and Emi Buendia – with some already attracting Premier League interest.
