Crawley v Norwich: Three Stars

Norwich were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in Round Two, losing 1-0 to League Two side Crawley Town at the People’s Pensions Stadium.

The game was very one-sided, with Norwich dominating in every way apart from the score.

The away side ended the game having 75% possession, with a total of 21 shots, four oh which were on target.

However, it was the hosts who emerged victorious and booked a place in the third round. An unlucky deflected goal off young striker Adam Idah left goalkeeper Ralf Fahrmann wrong footed, with no chance of preventing the ball crossing the line.

Crawley then defended well and held on to their lead, eventually causing an embarrassing cup upset.

But who impressed for the Canaries? Here are our three stars from the match…

The German keeper arrived in Norwich on loan from Schalke, hoping to impress fans and challenge Dutchman Tim Krul for a space in the starting line-up.

He had a poor pre-season, leaving fans unconvinced by his footwork, despite his incredible shot-stopping ability. But in this game, he was a standout player, looking far more comfortable on the ball and producing some decent saves.

Fahrmann still needs to prove himself a bit more before he properly challenges Krul, but he isn’t far off.

The youngster continued to impress on the wing with his direct approach, willingness to take on defences and wicked shooting ability.

He fits Farke’s style perfectly and will be hoping to get his chance to prove himself in the Premier League. The way he is playing at the moment, it shouldn’t be long before he is tearing it up in the top flight.

The winger came on as a substitute, replacing Christoph Zimmermann and immediately improved things.

So far this season he hasn’t had quite the impact he would have perhaps hoped for, but he was one of the bright sparks in the defeat as he came close to scoring, smashing the ball against the crossbar. He will be hoping to build on that performance against West Ham on Saturday.
