So far, my All-Time Norwich City XI consists of Bryan Gunn, Adam Drury, Steve Bruce, Timm Klose and Max Aarons.
Now comes one of the trickiest selections and arguably the biggest embarrassment of riches – who do you pick for midfield?
Wingers
As a reminder, we’re going for an old-school 4-4-2, and one reason is that I love a stylish winger. Whether it’s someone who can do you for sheer pace, stylish skill, precise set-pieces and ideally a combination of all of the above, they are usually one of the most exciting players to watch.
That being said Darren Huckerby is probably the easiest lock in this position for me. Fast paced, flamboyant and cheeky he was my dream fantasy pick in the season we got promoted (my younger brother picked Peter Crouch upfront which was spookily prophetic!)
For the other slot it is trickier. Nathan Redmond offered pace, Anthony Pilkington had some iconic moments while the likes of Ruel Fox and Darren Eadie were prime candidates. There has to be a winner so the second choice goes to Emi Buendia.
I know I was surprised too but multiple sites listed him as a winger so he’s in.
Central midfield
In order to contrast the fancy players on the flanks we need some solidity in the middle so I am going to have to be brutal and not include the likes of Wes Hoolahan or James Maddison. This can be in the form of a shielding defensive midfielder or a marauding box to box midfielder.
Gary Holt offers stamina and industry while Pelle Mattson is a great recent addition who shows massive promise. Some players like Youssef Safri offer a little extra quality and Paris Maghoma is an incredibly exciting prospect for the future.
That being said Jeremy Goss got that iconic goal against Bayern Munich so he’s in and he’s joined by Alexander Tettey.
Almost complete
So our midfield is Darren Huckerby, Jeremy Goss, Alexander Tettey and Emi Buendia. In my opinion this is a great blend of marauding attack, hard graft and a bit of iconic magic.
How do you feel this all-time Norwich City XI is shaping up?
