Reading’s hopes of signing Nelson Oliveira on a permanent deal have been dashed after learning of a wage increase the striker has received from Norwich.
According to a report on Get Reading, relayed by HITC, the striker has been given a pay rise following the Canaries’ promotion to the Premier League, as per the terms of his contract.
It is thought that he will now be receiving around £30,000-a-week from the Norfolk-based club, a figure that the Royals won’t be able to match.
Reading are currently under a ‘soft transfer embargo’ which would have made it difficult for them to sign Oliveira anyway, but the wage issue looks to have knocked them out of the running for his signature completely.
The 27-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with Reading having failed to force his way into the Norwich side.
He made 10 appearances during his time at the Madejski Stadium, scoring three goals, and had been linked with a permanent switch there this summer.
That now looks unlikely, however, and the Portuguese forward looks as though he will be returning to Norwich with his long-term future uncertain after he was told he was free to leave last week.
