Superstar James Maddison headed out the door at Carrow Road, and Norwich replaced him with… your guess is as good as mine.
See how we rated Norwich’s summer transfer business.
Arrivals
Ben Marshall joined from Wolves for a £1.5 million fee, and the 27-year-old looks set to play a versatile role down the right-hand flank for Daniel Farke’s men.
A similar fee was paid to FC Augsburg for midfielder Moritz Leitner, who had spent the latter part of the 2017-18 season on loan at Norwich.
Getafe accepted a £1.35 million bid for Emiliano Buendia from the East Anglians, and the attacking midfielder is one of the more intriguing players now on the books at Norwich at just 21-years-of-age.
Veteran shot-stopper Tim Krul joined on a free transfer, and Finnish forward Teemu Pukki arrived without the need of a fee.
Right-back Felix Passlack joins on loan from Borussia Dortmund, and striker Jordan Rhodes is loaned from Sheffield Wednesday.
Departures
Maddison was the big loss, and City fans will be hoping the team can find a way to fill the hole left by the attacking midfielder. Snapped up by Leicester for £22.5 million, Norwich received a strong fee for a player with exclusively Championship experience.
Josh Murphy was also flogged, Cardiff City stumping up £10 million for the winger’s services.
After one disastrous season, Marley Watkins was allowed to leave for Bristol City, for a fee of just under £1 million (a simply remarkable amount, for anyone who watched the bumbling 27-year-old last year).
There were also loan opportunities for Yanic Wildschut, Marcel Franke, and Sean Raggett.
What else could have been done?
Norwich have finished the transfer window with a profit of £31 million. If a good amount of that money isn’t spent on players in January, Canaries fans will be filled with entirely righteous anger at the board.
Final Grade: C-
The additions themselves may prove to be fairly handy, but the huge mismatch in spend to income fails to entirely absolve Norwich City.
