Norwich City made an approach to sign Stuttgart defender Matthias Zimmermann, according to ZVW.
The report claims that both Norwich and Crystal Palace have contacted Stuttgart regarding a potential move.
However, Stuttgart are trying to negotiate a new deal for Zimmermann, with his current contract expiring next summer.
If Norwich or Palace make a substantial offer during the day, Stuttgart could be tempted to sell in order to avoid losing him on a free next year.
Zimmermann can play in holding midfield or at right-back, two positions where Norwich are not blessed with quality in abundance.
The 25-year-old made 31 appearances last season as Stuttgart stormed their way to the 2. Bundesliga title.
Norwich have already signed one Zimmermann from Germany this summer, with Christoph arriving from Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer.
The transfer window closes in just over 13 hours, with Norwich not having long to complete any last-minute business that they may want to conclude.
