Norwich produced another abject away performance today as they were beaten 2-1 by Burton Albion in the Championship.
The Canaries were stripped of their wings by the Brewers as the relegation strugglers produced a superb, dogged, display to claim a vital three points.
The result leaves Norwich ten points adrift of Sheffield Wednesday and the play-off places, with Wednesday also having a game in-hand on Norwich.
It was Burton who took the lead in the match. Timm Klose was outdone on the touchline before Cauley Woodrow dispatched a cross into the box.
Cameron Jerome was fortunate to bring Norwich level when the ball appeared to rebound in off his hand to make it 1-1.
However, just as Norwich looked to take the lead, Burton hit on the counter-attack and Michael Kightly scored a fantastic goal to give the home side the lead.
The winger flicked the ball past Russell Martin with ease before lifting the ball over John Ruddy – who rushed out to block the shot.
Picking a man of the match from the players who played today has been very difficult. None of them deserve much praise after the way they played, but the best of a bad bunch has to be pointed out.
So, I have gone with Mitchell Dijks… once again.
The Dutch defender did little wrong all afternoon and made some crunching tackles. Although his crosses did leave a lot to be desired at times when he did get forward.
This is his fourth man of the match award in his first five games for the club, quite some feat – even if today’s accolade means precious little.
