Norwich City have completed their first signing of the January window, announcing the arrival of Agust Hlynsson.
Hlynsson has joined City on an undisclosed fee from Breidablik today, following a spate of interest in his signature.
European giants Ajax were said to have been keen on the midfielder, but City have beat them to the punch and clinched the signing of the promising youngster.
The 16-year-old already has first-team experience and has even played in the Europa League – featuring in the qualifiers for his former club earlier this season.
Hlynsson will be able to sign his first pro deal later this summer and is set to go straight into City’s under-23 set-up.
The Icelandic youth international has already had the chance to train with Norwich’s senior side and Alex Neil is said to be impressed.
Academy manager Greg Broughton has revealed that Norwich have been tracking him for three years and agreed a fee for him last summer but had to wait until now to finalise the deal.
Speaking to Norwich’s website, Broughton said this:
We’ve been tracking Agust for three years so it’s been a long process, as it is when you try and bring in any player from abroad.
He spent some time with us last season, he enjoyed that experience and from there we agreed a fee with Breidablik in the summer and in this transfer window we have finalised the deal.
The plan is for him to be playing Under-23s football straight away. He’s already had an opportunity to train with the first team and Alex Neil likes him as a player.
