Norwich City midfielder Graham Dorrans is to kick-off Roberto Di Matteo’s new era at Aston Villa by becoming his first signing, according to The Mirror.
The Scotland international has been a fringe player for the relegated side for the majority of the season, despite being one of their best performers at the start of the season. It’s believed he is interested in being reunited with Di Matteo, with the price tag being the only obstacle in the deal taking place.
While Dorrans is keen on a return with Di Matteo and Steve Clarke at Villa, both former managers at his former club and midlands rivals West Brom, they face competition from Premier League newsboys Hull City and Burnley.

Having spent most of last season on the fringes, Dorrans seems more interested in being a key player at Villa than an instant return to the top flight. A source told the Mirror:
“Dorrans loved working under Roberto and they have maintained their relationship. They both want it to happen but the two clubs have to come to an arrangement over the fee.”
The central midfielder has made a combined total of 32 appearances for the Canaries, after a successful loan spell helping them win promotion earned him a permanent deal in the following summer.
But he failed to make a lasting impact in the Premier League, and will likely look elsewhere for regular starts.
