Norwich City fifth-highest spenders on agent fees in the Championship

Share
  • Norwich City spent just over £4 million in agent fees over last 14 months.
  • City spent a guaranteed £25.3 million on new signings in summer window.
  • Club paid a fee to Marcelino Nunez’s representative re his move to Ipswich.

Norwich City paid a little over £4m in agent fees between February 2025 and February 2026, placing them fifth in comparison to the rest of the Championship.

Data published by the Football Association on Wednesday underlines how changes in management and a busy spell in the summer transfer market contributed to the club’s intermediary costs.

Only Ipswich, Southampton, Leicester and Sheffield United spent more than the Canaries, with Norwich’s total reaching £4,020,206.

That figure is a 52% rise from the previous year’s £2.64m and covers 43 separate transactions. These include the appointments of Liam Manning and Philippe Clement, along with numerous incoming transfers.

On average, it means that Norwich paid roughly £93,400 per deal in agent fees. Their spending was significantly lower than local rivals Ipswich Town, who topped the list with £11.73m after returning to the Championship following relegation from the Premier League.

Among the other clubs relegated from the top flight, Southampton and Leicester ranked second and third, with agent fees of £8.38m and £5.87m respectively. Sheffield United were next, spending £5.05m.

At the opposite end of the scale, Sheffield Wednesday reported the lowest outlay at just £535,000. Blackburn Rovers, Charlton Athletic and Portsmouth were the only other sides to keep their agent payments below £1m.

Fee paid to Nunez’s agent in connection with the move to Ipswich

Across the division as a whole, Championship clubs spent just over £69m on agents during the period, an increase of around 10% compared to the previous year’s £63m. However, that total remains far below the Premier League’s £460m, illustrating the ongoing financial gap between the top tier and the rest of English football, and how hard it is to stay up if a club does not have the required amount of funding.

These figures come as Norwich continue to adjust financially following the end of parachute payments after their relegation from the English top flight in 2022. The club’s latest accounts, released in November, showed turnover dropping sharply by a total of £33.8m, from £73.1m to £39.3m.

Subsequent financial updates revealed that Norwich spent at the very least £25.3m on new signings last summer, including Papa Amadou Diallo, Vladan Kovacevic, Mirko Topic, Pelle Mattsson, Mathias Kvistgaarden, Jeffrey Schlupp, Jovon Makama and Jakov Medic. A further £6.8m could become payable depending on performance-related clauses for all of those players and the club as a whole.

Agent fees also applied to certain outgoing transfers. The documentation from the FA indicates Norwich paid a fee to Marcelino Nunez’s representative in connection with his move to Ipswich Town.

The overall total additionally covers new contracts, such as Jack Stacey’s deal, and loan agreements involving Sam Field and Harry Amass, both signed in the January transfer window.
