Norwich academy product Remi Matthews has today joined League One side Doncaster Rovers on a loan deal.
After a relatively successful loan spell earlier on in the season at table-toppers Burton Albion, the return of their number one keeper following an injury meant he was surplus to requirements at the Pirelli Stadium. He made a total of six appearances for the Brewers in the earlier stages of the season, as their push for promotion to the second tier for the first time in the club’s history began to gather momentum.
Despite being tipped as a future star by many at the club, Gorleston-born Matthews is yet to make a first team appearance for his boyhood club. But he was still rewarded with a new two-year contract by the Canaries last summer to keep him at Carrow Road until the summer of 2017.

His new side, Doncaster, are currently fighting a completely different battle in League One to that of his previous loan club. Darren Ferguson’s side currently sit in the relegation zone, one point and one place behind fellow strugglers Blackpool.
Matthews will now be under the watchful eye of Norwich City’s ‘loans manager’ Neil Adams. The former first team boss returned to the club last summer, and will monitor the progress of the former academy keeper.
