Alex Neil frustrated after Liverpool defeat

Alex Neil was left frustrated after Norwich City’s extraordinary loss against Liverpool at Carrow Road.

Norwich played well throughout the game and were very unlucky not to get a point against the Anfield outfit, let alone three. Neil’s Canaries went in at the break 2-1 up after a cheeky back-heeled goal from Dieumerci Mbokani and a debut goal from former Everton man Steven Naismith. Two soon became three from a converted Wes Hoolahan penalty. However, four late goals from Liverpool remarkably flipped the game on its head, with the fourth of those goals coming seconds after Sebastien Bassong scored what he thought was the equalizer for Norwich.

Understandably, the Norwich manager was angry with his defence after the game, saying to Norwich’s official website:

We done exactly what we set out to do for the first 60 minutes, we looked dangerous, but from then on we lost our composure. We were the architects of our own downfall. When you score four goals and don’t win, it’s a big problem.

Our decision-making at the back was poor to say the least. We couldn’t defend our box. It’s concerning. It’s really frustrating. We had the game in our hands but it turned into a bit of a shambles. We done exactly what we set out to do for the first 60 minutes, we looked dangerous, but from then on we lost our composure.

The result means that Norwich still only have won once in 2016, against Southampton, and the Canaries remain 16th in the Barclays Premier League.

Norwich will hope for a better defensive performance when Tottenham come to Norfolk on the 2nd February.
