Norwich City succumbed to a 3-1 defeat to Stoke at the Britannia last night after Gary O’Neil’s silly red card condemned Norwich to play with for an hour with 10 men.
Stoke striker, Jonathan Walters, had put the Potters 1-0 up just after half time, however, City fought back and an excellent strike from Jonny Howson brought the sides level. But the reduced Canaries couldn’t hold onto a point and goals from Joselu and an own goal from Ryan Bennett wrapped up the points for Stoke.
Norwich will have been disappointed not to have come away with at least a point as Stoke were far from their usual best and looked to be there for the taking at points. But, Gary O’Neil’s brainless challenge through the back of Ibrahim Afellay when the ball was going out for a throw in was stupid and ultimately cost the Canaries getting anything from the game.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the defeat:
Twitter: Just seen O’Neill’s red on MOTD. Ludicrous challenge as ball going out and no danger. Tettey fortunate not to follow him off #ncfc (@RichardBalls)
Twitter: Oneils challenge could of been bad. But seemed controlled. Still a red card either way #ncfc (@The_Smith6)
Twitter: Last night’s sending off I feel gutted then I thought come on let’s go and win on Saturday and show Bournemouth what we are made of #ncfc (@girl_norfolk)
Twitter: No-one will be more disappointed in @Gazoneil than himself. Will know he let us down. He’s apologised & I’m sure he’ll make up for it #ncfc (@Footie_Cath)
Twitter: We’re fine. We lost that game when Gary O’Neil decided to do that. Move on to Bournemouth. #NCFC (@Alex_Murray_)
Twitter: If that game doesnt highlight our need for transfers this month, I don’t know what will. Board really need to take a look at themselves. (@DanEmery07)
Twitter: And so we move on to Bournemouth on Saturday. That should be interesting… #ncfc #pinkun (@michaeljbailey)
Twitter: Apologised to all the lads & the staff @ Ncfc. Massive apology to all fans as well! Made a big mistake. Out of character. Won’t happen again (@Gazoneil)
