Norwich City aim to have “one of the top academies nationwide”

Norwich City have invested money into the club’s academy as they look to maintain their Category One status for the foreseeable future.

According to a report from David Freezer from the Eastern Daily Press, the club have put plans in place to install a floodlit 3G pitch, improve the bottom-half of the Colney pitches and to relay the carpet in the indoor facility to ensure all FIFA standards are met.

The club will aim to have all the renovation work done well in advance of July 2016, which is when they’ll be audited. If they meet all the requirements, which they should once the work has been carried out, they will be awarded Category One status, meaning they become one of the best academies in the country.

Academy manager Gregg Broughton, who is overseeing the changes to the Colney facility, told the EDP that Norwich are confident that they can become one of the best clubs for young players in England:

We’re very confident that we are operating well above the standards required to be in Category One and to be considered as one of the top academies nationwide.

The only aspect we have work to do is on some of the facilities at Colney, which we are working to bring up to standard over the course of the next six months ahead of the July deadline.
