It was a fine day for the Canaries as they overcame fellow Premier League new-boys Bournemouth 3-1 with an impressive performance. There were some superb displays from both fresh and familiar faces, and here we rate each player’s performance out of 10.
John Ruddy – 6. Didn’t have much to do with the Cherries only mustering two shots on target throughout the game. Not for the first time this season he was let down by his defence in their quest for a clean sheet. His kicking was poor again.
Robbie Brady – 8. Another quality performance going forward and back. Made an excellent sliding challenge on Wilson at 0-0 to stop a certain goal and linked up well with Jarvis consistently. Martin Olsson is going to have a tough time breaking back into the team.
Russell Martin – 6. Saw a lot of the ball and showed more reliability when defending than usual. As captain, needs to command the area more to avoid conceding silly goals.
Sebastian Bassong – 7. Put in a much better showing than against Southampton and was bullied the in-form Calum Wilson. Like Martin, he needs to make sure the defence is organised during set-pieces.
Andre Wisdom – 5. Poor first half in his first start for the club but gradually grew into it. Lost the ball a bit too much and could have done more to link up with Redmond but showed flashes of quality.
Matt Jarvis – 8. Was able to bring City up the pitch on numerous occasions when they were under the cosh in the first half. Has developed a promising partnership with Brady already and his pace and ball control will excite fans. Brilliantly taken goal.
Jonny Howson – 6. Will be glad at the arrival of Jarvis as he can influence the game a lot more from the middle. Not his best match, and failed to dominate the midfield in the first half, but his quality is undeniable.
Alex Tettey – 8. This man is normally the one doing the behind-the-scenes work in a Norwich win and today was no different. He’s always exactly where he needs to be and allowed the full-backs to get forward today without any worries. Only frustration is that he’s now only one card away from a suspension.
Nathan Redmond – 6. Was largely uninfluential again and failed to bring the game to Bournemouth. He helped stretch the game in the second half when things opened up, but yet again failed to show consistent quality with his final ball.
Wes Hoolahan – 9. Fan’s favourite Hoolahan is now top of the Premier League assist table and has been involved in most of City’s goals this season. He put in another special performance and everything that we did going forward went through him. Showed his unbelievable ball control and passing ability with his assist, and after his expertly-taken goal, had many fans wondering why he doesn’t shoot more often.
Cameron Jerome – 7. Hassled the opposition as usual to force a couple of errors but the main thing for last season’s top scorer was the goal. Did well to avoid the attentions of the defender marking him and get the ball in the back of the net for the first time this campaign. The lone forward could have had more and looks set to improve his poor Premier League goal scoring tally this season.
Subs:
Graham Dorrans – 6. Brought on for Wes to slow the game down and solidify the defence. Did exactly that.
Martin Olsson – 6. Showed why he’s been one of our top performers in the last two seasons with a couple of long runs up the pitch and a solid defensive display. Will be knocking on the first 11 door but faces stiff competition from Brady.
Dieumurci Mbokani – 6. Made the right runs and got in the right positons. With a bit of luck could have had a debut goal from Redmond’s low cross, and oh how the Norwich faithful would have loved that.
