The 20-year-old joined the Canaries on 1st September 2014 from the Wiltshire side, after making 34 appearances for the club and scoring 2 goals, with then-manager Neil Adams seeking the player as one for the future.
The midfielder was immediately sent straight back to Swindon Town on a season-long loan as part of the deal, which saw him and fellow-Canary Harry Toffolo play a crucial part in the club making the League One Play-Off final.

It was this campaign which saw Thompson rally up 2 goals and 4 assists in 32 appearances before a shoulder injury in March threatened a premature end to the season. He went on to get the go-ahead at the last minute from Alex Neil to make a substitute appearance in Town’s 4-0 defeat against Preston North End at Wembley.
He has since impressed fans during preseason games in City’s victories against Gorleston, Hitchin Town and Cambridge United before joining up with the Under-21 side during their tour in Austria, where he has subsequently remained this season after not being given a designated squad number in the first team – with a hint of a loan move being on the cards for the midfielder.

However, it was understood in August by the League One side that City aimed to send the Wales-U21 international on loan to a Championship club, with Town’s Manager, Mark Cooper, previously telling Total Sport:
“I think the natural progression for Louis would be a Championship club. I’d love to have him, of course, but I think that they’ll be looking to get him into the Championship.”
This sudden change in direction is likely to be seen as a big signing for the Robins, who are looking for yet another successful season in League One, with Louis reuniting with his brother Nathan in the first team.
As for the Canaries, they’ll be hoping to see another young player enter Alex Neil’s mind in the not-so-distant-future, after seeing Harry Toffolo earn a contract extension as a result of an impressive debut season at Town and notable preseason with City’s first team.
