This weekend sees Stoke City visit Carrow Road with new signing Xherdan Shaqiri lining up to make his debut for the Potters. So in anticipation, let’s look at five memorable encounters between the two sides.
9th March 1963, Norwich City 6-0 Stoke, Carrow Road
In a season where Stoke won promotion to the first division, with a certain Stanley Matthews leading the line, Norwich managed to run out 6-0 winners in front of a crowd of over 25,000 at Carrow Road.
28th October 2006 Stoke City 5-0 Norwich City, Britannia Stadium
On the other end of the scale, Stoke crushed Peter Grant’s Norwich side 5-0 in 2006. Norwich ended the game with 10 men when loanee keeper Jamie Ashdown was sent off for a foul on future-canary Luke Chadwick. On-loan midfielder Lee Hendrie got the first before Fuller, Higginbotham and future Canaries Luke Chadwick and Darel Russell added to the scoresheet.
21st August 2011 Norwich City 1-1 Stoke, Carrow Road

This match saw the return of Premier League football to Carrow Road, the first time in over 6 years. Man United loanee Richie De Leat put the Canaries ahead early on through a well-placed header past Asmir Begovic, before defender Leon Barnett was given his marching orders after fouling Jonathan Walters in the penalty area. The resulting penalty was saved by John Ruddy, keeping the score at one nil. It stayed this way until stoppage time when Kenwyne Jones headed in the equaliser, crushing Canary hearts.
3rd November 2012 Norwich City 1-0 Stoke, Carrow Road

Norwich extended their unbeaten run to four games thanks to a late first half Bradley Johnson header. Chris Hughton’s side won in what was in truth a scrappy game, with Johnson’s goal from a Robert Snodgrass cross in reality the only highlight of the match. Norwich’s memorable unbeaten run continued until a 2-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.
29 Sep 2013 Stoke City 0-1 Norwich, Britannia Stadium

A Jonny Howson goal was enough to give Norwich all three points at the Britannia Stadium. In a game they dominated, Norwich took their second win of the season and only their second clean sheet in 42 Premier League matches. The Potters only managed one shot on target all match, with Stephen N’Zonzi having his shot saved by John Ruddy.
