After weeks of circulated rumours as to Mattia Destro’s future, he has today confirmed that he has chosen Italian side Bologna, over Norwich City. It comes after Mattia tweeted the following:
Da oggi inizia la mia nuova avventura con il #Bologna, ce la metterò tutta per ripagare la vostra fiducia! Arrivoooo! #weareone #gol #assist
— MattiaDestroOfficial (@MDestroOfficial) August 18, 2015
The tweet translates to: “From today begins my new #Bologna Adventure, we’ll put it to repay your trust! Arrivoooo! #weareone #goal #assist”.
The move which will see Mattia depart Roma is thought to be valued at €10 million, as reported by FourFourTwo. A worth while price tag given the startlet’s record at Roma, scoring 24 times in 57 appearances. Impressive baring in mind he often found himself falling down the pecking order!
Destro had been linked with a move to Carrow Road for several weeks. Alex Neil even confirmed interest in the striker less than a week ago. It is a rarity for Neil to speak loudly of transfers, meaning the club must have been fairly confident in securing the 24-year-old’s services. Without a shadow of doubt this is certainly a tough blow to the stomach for the Norwich recruitment team and board to take.
I am obviously disappointed that Destro will not be wearing yellow and green next year, as he is exactly what we needed. However, I am sure there are other names being mentioned behind the scenes. I am sure thhe fans will be hoping that we can bounce back off of this failing, and tempt a new striker through the doors. As a fan myself, I sincerely hope that we will now go on to look at bigger and better names before the window’s close! I am personally still keen on Mbokani, a big, tall fellow with many a goal to his name. But the man we would all like to see sign, is Charlie Austin. Surely it is worth forking out £15 million for an English striker capable of keeping you in the League?
With Destro now off the cards, it opens up many doors as to where McNally and co will look next, one thing is for sure, it’s going to be a sprint finish this August as the window nears its end!
