I caught up with Billy Grant from the Brentford dedicated website Beesotted Brentford to talk about this weekend’s clash.
Jack: Hi Billy, thanks for taking your time to talk to me today.
Billy: Not a problem Jack.
J: What was it like to finally get promoted last season after the heartbreak of the previous season?
B: It was unbelievable, it wasn’t just heartbreak the year before- it was eternal heartbreak. If you’re a Brentford fan you’re just used to being eternally heartbroken – we’ve lost all 7 play-off finals we’ve been in. Normally when it comes to the big games we completely crumble, so when it came to that last minute penalty and Trotta stepped up to take it we thought that bad run was going to come to an end, how wrong were we. There were literally people crying around us, it was horrible. Last season was much different though, we went up fairly comfortably and to already have promotion secured by Easter was a fantastic feeling.
J: Not many people expected Brentford to be doing this well so far this season, were you always confident?
B: Put it this way, the signings we have been making recently have been made with the future in mind. Once we got into the Championship we always felt like we would be able to cope and the ideal scenario would have been sticking around the top half for the duration of the season. I have to be honest though, we’re all very surprised to see how well we are doing but on the flipside we also expected the teams in the championship to be a lot better than they are.
J: Who would say has been your best player this season and should Norwich fear him?
B: That’s a very hard one to answer as it’s a real team game for us; I could literally give you 7 names. Our keeper David Button has been superb so far this season and has kept us in a lot of games and at the other end Andre Grey has been superb who really has stepped up from Luton last season. Alan Judge is also a massive player for us- our manager Mark Warburton said he’s the ‘best value buy’ this club will ever have. He has picked up an injury so may miss this weekend’s game though. We do have some really good players that could cause Norwich some stress.
J: Finally then, how do you think this weekend’s game is going to go?
B: I have to be honest; me and my mates are feeling very pessimistic about this game. Recently we’ve not been playing 100% but we have still been picking up results. We are also missing some players like Judge who are pivotal players in our team and that is costly. Put all of that together with the fact Norwich have a new manager and have real firepower up top, I’m fearing this game. I will certainly take a draw from this one.
J: Thanks so much Billy, safe travels to the fine city of Norwich.
B: Thanks Jack, my pleasure.
