Philippe Clement Rotates Squad Ahead of Middlesbrough v Norwich Test

Norwich City travel to Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon aiming to balance heavy squad rotation with securing a third consecutive Championship victory.

Manager Philippe Clement has refreshed his starting lineup significantly during a demanding three-game week. Oscar Schwartau returned to the side with a goal against Birmingham City, while Mohamed Toure and Anis Ben Slimane were rested. Further tactical adjustments in attack are expected at the Riverside Stadium.

Gabe Forsyth is nearing full fitness after an extended spell sidelined by a knee injury. Mirko Topić and Lucien Mahovo are conducting individual grass work, leaving Ali Ahmed as the only long-term absentee. The Canaries face a formidable test against a home side fortified by recent squad reinforcements, including the return of Jeremy Sarmiento.

Clement Praises Organised Middlesbrough Setup

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Clement told Teesside Live he expects a difficult encounter.

“I respect Kim Hellberg highly. The way he plays football is the way I like to see football. There is a clear structure but also a lot of variation within that structure,” Clement said.

Middlesbrough manager Hellberg noted Norwich’s recent momentum in his own pre-match assessment.

“They’re a good side. Very good side. They have been strong since the coach took over, won a lot of games. And a very good side, so looking forward to to the game,” Hellberg told Teesside Live.

Following Saturday’s fixture, Norwich will prepare for a Carabao Cup trip to Manchester City.
