Norwich City manager Philippe Clement has validated his strict squad rotation strategy after resting forward Mohamed Toure during Wednesday’s 2-1 victory over Birmingham City.
The head coach dropped Toure to the bench despite the young striker’s impressive display against Sheffield United. Clement had previously indicated that managing physical workloads would be essential during a congested league schedule.
Schwartau And Diallo Deliver
Oscar Schwartau returned to the starting lineup after missing the weekend trip to Bramall Lane. The Danish midfielder justified his selection by scoring the opening goal from outside the penalty area after 28 minutes.
Pape Amadou Diallo extended the advantage 11 minutes later. The winger slid home his first goal for the club following right-flank work from Andre Brooks, highlighting the depth in Norwich’s versatile attacking ranks.
Clement Details Tactical Journey
The hosts ultimately secured all three points despite Carlos Vicente reducing the deficit for Birmingham. Speaking to the Bracknell News, Clement praised his rotated squad.
“At times we were able to play our football but we had to win our battles too. It is a really important step in the journey we are taking with this club,” Clement said.
The club’s medical department continues to manage several long-term absentees. Mirko Topić and Ali Ahmed remain sidelined with anterior cruciate ligament injuries, while Lucien Mahovo is ruled out until late autumn with an ankle issue.
Norwich will look to record a third consecutive league victory when they visit Middlesbrough on Saturday.
