Norwich City 2026/27 Season Preview: Signings, Exits, Fixtures And Facts

Norwich City’s 2026/27 Championship season — the club’s 125th season and their fifth straight in the second tier — kicks off at Carrow Road on Saturday 15th August against West Brom. This guide covers everything confirmed so far: every signing and departure, the new financial rules shaping the squad, the kit, the fixtures and the state of Philippe Clement’s rebuild heading into pre-season’s final weeks.

As of 14th July 2026, Norwich have made four confirmed additions and lost a handful of first-team and squad players, with one significant gap — a new left-back — still unresolved. Here is the complete picture.

Every Confirmed Signing So Far

Norwich’s summer business has been built around depth and value rather than marquee fees. Centre-back Bruno Alves arrived on a season-long loan from Brazilian side Cruzeiro, with an option to sign him permanently. Midfielder Sam Field’s loan spell from QPR, which began in January, was converted into a permanent deal for a reported £1.5m rising to £2.8m with promotion add-ons, on a contract to 2029 with a club option for a further year. Winger Andre Brooks joined from Sheffield United on a five-year deal, having been the Blades’ Players’ Player and Young Player of the Year for 2025/26, though the fee has not been confirmed by either club. Eighteen-year-old centre-back Vinnie Leonard also completed a move from League of Ireland side Dundalk, agreed back in February and formally joining on 1st July.

Who Has Left Carrow Road

On the outgoing side, goalkeeper George Long made his loan move to Southampton permanent on an initial two-year deal. Winger Tony Springett departed for League One’s Leyton Orient on a free transfer with a two-year deal plus a third-year option, later reuniting there with former Newcastle and QPR midfielder Isaac Hayden. Midfielder AJ Bridge left for Scottish football with Airdrieonians after a loan spell at Cork City. Norwich also released a group of out-of-contract first-team squad players at the end of April, including centre-back Shane Duffy, midfielder Jeffrey Schlupp, forward Emi Marcondes and goalkeeper Dan Barden, none of whom have been confirmed at new clubs as things stand.

Kenny McLean Signs On For The Long Haul

Amid the incoming and outgoing business, Norwich secured their own captain. Kenny McLean signed a new contract keeping him at Carrow Road until June 2028, officially confirmed by the club on 7th July after being agreed in principle several weeks earlier. With Norwich’s squad rebuild otherwise focused on incomings, locking down the captain’s long-term future was one of the summer’s clearer statements of continuity.

The Big Unresolved Question: Left-Back

The one position Norwich have not strengthened is left-back, where incumbents Ben Chrisene and Lucien Mahovo both carry recent injury concerns. Hull City’s Ryan Giles and LASK’s George Bello have both been credited with interest, with Bello viewed as the more realistic target given Giles’ stated preference to stay and fight for his place at Hull. No deal for either has been agreed as of 14th July, and it remains the clearest gap in Clement’s squad heading into August.

Clement’s First Full Season In Charge

This will be Philippe Clement’s first full campaign since taking over at Carrow Road in November last year. He won 17 of his 31 league games in charge, turning a side that was second-from-bottom when he arrived into a ninth-place finisher by May — a turnaround that has fed directly into the ambition around this squad rebuild. Clement has spoken about wanting to refresh the basics of the team’s style of play heading into pre-season, even after last season’s improvement, rather than assuming the group can simply pick up where it left off. Majority shareholder Mark Attanasio, who chairs the club’s board alongside co-owner Richard Ressler, has publicly backed a top-two push for 2026/27, which is the scale of ambition against which this summer’s business — and the still-unresolved left-back search — will ultimately be judged.

New Financial Rules Reshape The Championship

This is also the first season under the EFL’s new Squad Cost Ratio system, which replaces the old profitability and sustainability rules from 1st July 2026. Championship clubs are now capped at spending 85% of relevant income on squad costs, with an equity top-up allowance of up to £33m over three years. Financial analyst Kieran Maguire has described Norwich’s position as challenging given the club receives no parachute-payment income, unlike several of their promotion rivals — a backdrop that helps explain a transfer window built on loans, permanent-conversions and value signings rather than big-money statement deals.

Kit, Fixtures And Pre-Season So Far

Norwich and Joma launched the 2026/27 home kit on 3rd July, bringing back green sleeves for the first time since Joma’s original Norwich kit in 2021/22, paired with a tonal yellow body and green shorts. On the pitch, pre-season has brought a 2-0 win over King’s Lynn Town and a goalless draw with Colchester United, both played behind closed doors at the club’s training base, with a trip to Switzerland to face FC St. Gallen on Friday 17th July — Norwich’s first match in Switzerland since 1978 — shown live on Canaries TV. The Championship campaign proper begins at home to West Brom on 15th August, with a Carabao Cup first-round tie away at MK Dons on 8th August offering a competitive run-out first.

Norwich City Women: A Fresh Start Under Northeast

It is not only the men’s team rebuilding. Norwich City Women begin life under new head coach Perry Northeast, who joined from Brighton & Hove Albion Women and started the role on 1st July, replacing Andy Cook. The women’s side were promoted to the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division — tier three of the English pyramid — after winning promotion in May, and have brought in goalkeeper Poppy Irvine from Birmingham City among their summer additions. Their pre-season includes a trip to London Bees on Sunday 19th July, and season tickets for the women’s team go on sale separately from 20th July as the club looks to build on last season’s promotion momentum at both first-team levels.
