Former Norwich City midfielder Lukas Rupp has completed a move to VfR Mannheim ahead of the new Regionalliga season.
The switch takes Rupp back closer to his home region after a career that included Bundesliga spells with VfB Stuttgart and Hoffenheim. He also spent time at Carrow Road across the Premier League and Championship.
VfR Mannheim described Rupp as a central and attacking midfielder who brings experience and responsibility to the promoted side.
Rupp’s Norwich Link Gives The Move Extra Interest
The update matters to Norwich supporters because Rupp remains a familiar name from a turbulent Carrow Road period.
He joined the Canaries from Hoffenheim in January 2020 and went on to play in both the Premier League and Championship. That included Norwich’s promotion-winning 2020/21 season under Daniel Farke.
His Norwich spell was not defined by huge numbers. It was more about reliability across midfield roles and his ability to operate in Farke’s possession structure when the squad needed control.
According to VfR Mannheim’s official announcement, Rupp recorded 31 appearances, seven goals and six assists for Hessen Kassel last season before making the move.
For Rupp, this is a late-career return towards home rather than a headline-grabbing transfer.
For Norwich fans, it is a neat reminder of where one member of that recent promotion-era squad has landed next.
