Norwich City are still awaiting news on how long winger Ali Ahmed is going to be out for after he sustained a knee injury against Osasuna last weekend.
The Canada international was forced off the pitch in the second half after jarring his knee in the turf, and there are concerns that he could miss a significant portion of the Championship season.
If the former MLS forward is out for a large chunk of matches, Norwich may have to dip back into the market to ensure that they have the required depth on the left flank, given that Papa Diallo is working his way back from an injury of his own.
Should the Canaries decide to pursue a deal for a left winger, here are five potential targets who could be interesting additions to the squad…
Romaine Mundle
One option could be Sunderland forward Romaine Mundle. He only made 16 appearances in all competitions for the Black Cats in the 2025/26 campaign and appears to be at a crossroads in his career.
A loan move to Carrow Road would provide him with the platform to either earn a permanent move to the club or to attract interest from elsewhere.
The 23-year-old attacker is a proven Championship performer who, in theory, could hit the ground running with Philippe Clement’s side as a short-term replacement for Ali Ahmed.
In the 2024/25 season, Mundle scored five goals and provided two assists in 17 starts for Sunderland as they won promotion to the Premier League, via the play-offs, which shows that he can be effective coming in off the left flank.
Ibrahim Osman
Ibrahim Osman started his career in Europe with Nordsjælland, Johannes Hoff Thorup’s former club, but he is currently at Brighton & Hove Albion and looks set for another loan away from the Premier League side.
The Ghana international spent the second half of last season on loan at Birmingham City in the Championship and produced two goals and two assists in 13 starts on the left flank.
At the age of 21, Osman is still a young player looking to improve his game and could look to take the next step in his career under Clement at Norwich.
As a right-footed left winger who completed 1.3 dribbles per game for the Blues, he could be the ideal addition to replace Ahmed as a direct wide player for the Belgian boss.
Ben Brereton Diaz
A current Championship player who seems to be available at the moment is Southampton forward Ben Brereton Diaz, who looks set for a move away from St. Mary’s.
The Chile international is a versatile attacker who would offer cover on the right, the left, and in the number nine position, which is one reason why he would be an interesting signing for the Canaries.
However, Brereton Diaz only scored seven goals and missed 11 ‘big chances’ in 40 appearances in the Championship last season, despite being in the prime years of his career at 27, and Norwich may want a player with more upside.
Clement and Ben Knapper would know exactly what they are getting with the 27-year-old, though, and that may play in his favour as a short-term replacement for Ahmed.
Michel-Ange Balikwisha
If Knapper and Clement want to look slightly further afield, Michel-Ange Balikwisha would be an intriguing signing on loan from Celtic.
The DR Congo international only made seven appearances in the Premiership last season after a £5m move from Royal Antwerp, as he was unfavoured by manager Martin O’Neill.
Prior to his move to Parkhead, though, the 25-year-old attacker racked up 11 goals and eight assists in two seasons with Antwerp in Belgium, showing that he does have the potential to score and create goals.
If the Hoops are prepared to send him out on loan, this could be an opportunistic signing that works out for all parties involved to get his career back on track.
Lewis Koumas
Norwich wanted to sign Lewis Koumas on loan from Liverpool under Liam Manning last summer, but they opted against a deal in the end.
The Welsh attacker went on loan to Birmingham City and then Hull City, ending the campaign with four goals in 40 matches in the division.
Like Brereton Diaz, Koumas’ performances in the league last season do not suggest that he would be a top-quality signing for the Canaries this summer.
However, unlike the Southampton forward, the Wales international is a 20-year-old winger who is still learning and could take the next step in his career at Carrow Road, finally adding consistency to his play in the final third.
