- Norwich want to sign a new left-sided centre-back this summer.
- Luke Graham has reportedly been identified as a target for the club.
- Jakov Medic’s future up in the air after a frustrating first season in Norfolk.
Norwich City looking to add another centre-back to their squad when the summer transfer window opens for business next month.
Philippe Clement and Ben Knapper are aiming to build a team that competes for automatic promotion from the Championship next season, and a central defender is on their wishlist.
They are reportedly already looking at a possible defensive addition from the Scottish Premiership this summer.
Norwich’s interest in signing a Premiership defender
The Canaries are in the market for a left-sided centre-back to compete with Jose Cordoba in the 2026/27 campaign.
It was recently reported that Norwich are one of a number of clubs interested in a deal to sign Dundee star Luke Graham, who is a left-footed centre-back.
Schalke, Valencia, Derby, Salzburg, and Portsmouth are among a host of other teams in the race to land the Scottish youngster, though, so it will not be an easy deal to get done.
| 25/26 Premiership | Luke Graham |
| Matches Played (Starts) | 36 (35) |
| Total Duels Won | 276 |
| Total Duel Success Rate | 66.7% |
| Ground Duel Success Rate | 62.2% |
| Aerial Duel Success Rate | 70.3% (161 won) |
| Progressive Passes per 90 | 2.45 |
Graham was a dominant defensive force for Dundee this season, winning the majority of his duels, and offered quality in possession, with 2.45 progressive passes per 90.
The 22-year-old could be the ideal signing to compete with Cordoba as a younger left-footed defender who can be a back-up at first and develop into a star in the future.
Signing the Premiership colossus would not be good news for everyone in Norfolk, though, because it may mean the end of Jakov Medic‘s career at the club.
What signing Graham would mean for Medic
If Norwich complete a deal to bring Graham to Carrow Road, Clement would have Ruairi McConville and Harry Darling as his right-sided options and Graham and Cordoba on the left.
Darling and Cordoba were the first-choice pairing at the end of the campaign when McConville was missing through injury, which shows that the manager rates the English defender ahead of Medic.
That leaves the Croatian centre-back in limbo as a third-choice option on the right and the left of the defensive pairing heading into next season.
The 27-year-old only started 13 times in the Championship this term after joining from Ajax last summer for a fee of £2.1m.
Medic joined to be part of a back three in Liam Manning’s system, but we all know how that played out and he has rarely been called upon under Clement, bar being used as a makeshift centre-forward.
At the age of 27, Medic should be in the prime years of his career and playing regular football, rather than being a fifth-choice option in the Championship.
The former Ajax defender could be more effective in a team that defends deeper and does not leave him with as much space to cover, which is why he should look for a move away from Carrow Road.
Medic is not a terrible defender, but he does not suit the way that Norwich play with a high line, and there may well be teams, possibly from Germany, who are willing to snap him up this summer.
Therefore, the arrival of Graham, or any left-footed centre-back for that matter, could result in the Croatian’s exit from Norfolk after just one season at the club.
