- Norwich City battling several clubs to bolster their defensive line.
- Target fits the profile that Philippe Clement wants to add to his side.
- It could cost Norwich millions to get the deal done this summer.
Norwich City will be in the market to sign a left-footed centre-back when the summer transfer window officially opens for business next month.
Harry Darling, Shane Duffy, Ruairi McConville, and Jakov Medic were all right-footed centre-backs for the Canaries in the 2025-26 campaign.
Jose Cordoba was the only player who offered left-footed balance in the centre-back partnership, leaving the team without that balance when he was unavailable.
Norwich make contact to sign £4.3m defender
Now, Ben Knapper and Clement are reportedly looking at a player who could fill that void in the squad next season.
According to journalist Rudy Galetti, Norwich City are one of the clubs interested in a deal to sign Tromso centre-back Abubacarr Kinteh.
The reporter claims that the Canaries have made contact with the Norwegian side to enquire about a potential move for the 19-year-old talent.
Galetti, though, adds that Genoa have also enquired about Kinteh and that German team Koln have already submitted an offer worth around £4.3m for his services.
Tromso rejected that bid from the Bundesliga side, however, and that means Norwich may have to pay closer to £5m if they want to bring the left-footed centre-back to Carrow Road this summer.
The journalist does state that the Eliteserien outfit are expecting more offers to come in for the defender in the coming days, but it remains to be seen whether or not the Canaries will put a bid in.
Does it make sense for Norwich?
As long as the club are willing to pay the fee that Tromso want for him, this is a deal that could make a lot of sense for the Canaries.
Cordoba will and should be the first-choice as the left-sided centre-back after his impressive performances under Clement, ranking in the top 1% of centre-backs in the league for ball recoveries peer 90 (6.20).
Norwich, therefore, do not need a left-footed centre-back to come in and be an instant starter and star at the back for Clement.
Instead, the Canaries should look for a younger understudy to Cordoba who can learn from the Panama international and eventually develop into a starter.
Think about how McConville initially came in from Brighton as a teenager and waited behind Duffy and Darling before grabbing his chance.
Kinteh does not turn 20 until November and has played 28 league games in his career for Tromso, which means that he is the perfect fit for what Norwich should be looking for in that role.
| 2026 Eliteserien | Kinteh |
| Matches Played | 7 |
| Total Duels Won | 42 |
| Duel Success Rate | 77.8% |
| Ground Duel Success Rate | 81% |
| Tackles | 15 |
| Interceptions | 11 |
| Blocked Shots | 7 |
| Times Dribbled Past | 0 |
| FotMob Average Rating | 7.89 |
In seven appearances in the 2026 campaign, the teenage defender has shown potential with his dominant defensive displays, winning 78% of his overall duels.
Kinteh could be a defensive monster in the making for Norwich if they are able to get a deal over the line, whilst being the left-footed back-up that they desperately need.
Therefore, this is a signing that would make a lot of sense this summer.
