  • Sargent’s controversial exit through text message left a sour taste for supporters.06
  • New arrivals like Mo Toure and Ali Ahmed have revitalised City’s attacking threat.
  • Established stars like Kenny McLean flourished under the guidance of Clement.

This season has been one of the most bizarre when it comes to analysing Norwich City, none more so when it comes to looking at the players who make up the team.

Departures

One of the most significant departures was Josh Sargent. I’ll be honest, this one hurt.

Players come and go, but the manner in which he left seemed at odds with the impression I had of him. Refusing to play and doing so by text didn’t seem like the hard-working family man who seemed to enjoy living life in Norfolk.

At the end of the season, there were more predictable squad members moving on – controversial social media ranter, Shane Duffy, unlucky experience addition Jeffrey Schlupp, Emi Marcondes struggled for game time even with injuries, while Tony Springett and Daniel Barden have been let go.

Will more go? It seems likely but these are the ones we know so far.

Arrivals

On the plus side, Norwich City have been revitalised by the high scoring Mohammed Toure, Canadian winger Ali Ahmed and hidden gem Jovon Makama.

One of the more divisive arrivals has been Vlad Kovacevic. While he can be a bit erratic, he has produced some key saves over the course of this season and if anything will improve with more Championship season.

One of the most exciting discoveries this season has been Paris Maghoma, providing an additional creative spark.

The regulars

What was remarkable about this season was how established players improved under Philippe Clement.

Jose Cordoba grew and developed as a defender, Anis Ben Slimane became a key part of a free-flowing attacking unit while Liam Gibbs and Kellen Fisher deserve credit for adapting in different positions to cover injury issues over the course of the season.

Pelle Mattsen not only proved to be strong in midfield but also chipped in with some great goals!

Perhaps the biggest plaudits deserve to go to Norwich City’s skipper, Kenny McLean. Consistent and hard-working, he was a great example for the rest of the relatively young squad.

The future

There is some debate on what players Norwich City need for next year- A new left sided-defender, a striker and some reinforcement in midfield may well be on the list.

This is the chance for the board to recognise the job Clement has done and give his squad the resources needed to compete in next season’s Championship.
