One phrase that seems to have popped up regularly is “scran”. Normally, this would refer to the biggest or most appetising stadium food.
For me, though, I am intrigued by the weirdest forms of Norwich City stadium food items.
Tomorrow is *probably* our last Carrow Road visit of 2025-26, so there’s still time to scoff a few of these little beauties…
Pies
I know what you’re thinking “Pies are one of the most common forms of stadium food. How are they weird?”
It is their ubiquity that is the weird part. Think about it – when you buy them, they are boiling hot in your hand, making them uncomfortable to transport.
They are also difficult to eat in a neat way without the pie either collapsing or necking it down and inviting away fans to sing the cruel, “Who ate all the pies?” chant.
Bovril
Another stadium food item that is common throughout the Football League.
Furthermore, it is something that I love to have whenever I am at Carrow Road.
The weird part is when I think about what this is. Why am I craving hot beef drink and why does my mind link it solely with football?
Garlic chicken loaded fries
In contrast to the traditional Bovril and meat pie, garlic chicken loaded fries represent one of the more recent items to indulge in alongside the new varieties of hot dogs and other more Transatlantic goodies.
That being said it would probably be easier to transport and eat than meat pies.
Fork buffet
Fork buffet sounds like a fictional band a sitcom character used to play bass in, and you’d get one of a zany flashback scenes where they have a bizarre hairstyle.
If you want to have a serious business meeting to coincide with a game coming up, then you can have a cold fork buffet, including poached salmon fillet with a green herb mayonnaise or Italian antipasti.
For those who like their fork buffets warmer, you can get the hot option with the likes of Spanish Chicken with Chorizo and Butter Beans or for vegetarians, you can get Pancake Cannelloni with Spinach and Four Cheeses.
My recommendation…
For those of you who want to try local delicacies away from Norwich stadium food items, I recommend Pip’s Dining on St. Augustine’s Street with a changing week-to-week menu, the High Sea at the Grosvenor Fish Bar, and Last Pub Standing is a great place to pop in for a pre or post-match drink
Now if you’ll excuse me my Bovril craving is kicking in again.
