Freddie’s Favourite Five: Norwich City matches

Share

Every football fan has their own collection of favourites, especially Norwich City ones like me and you.

In “Freddie’s Favourite Five,” I take a personal look at my five standouts on a particular topic on the Canaries – today’s focus – my five favourite Norwich City games.

1. Norwich City 3-2 Manchester City – Sept 2019

Where else can you possibly start? Now, I was yet to be born for another 10 years when we beat Bayern Munich in the UEFA Cup, so a fair few of these games will be relatively recent. But even fans of an older generation can admit this was a special Carrow Road night. No one gave Norwich a chance against the reigning Premier League champions, and they had 11 first-team injuries, but goals from Kenny McLean, Todd Cantwell, and Teemu Pukki had the place bouncing. 16-year-old me was on cloud nine.

2. Arsenal 3-3 Norwich City – May 2012

Calling this game a six-goal thriller doesn’t even do it justice. One of my very first times following Norwich away from home, and both sides put on a blockbuster at the Emirates. I’ll never forget the reaction to Steve Morrison’s late equaliser, including my old man launching his walking stick from the stands out of pure joy. As much as I hate the guts of Paul Lambert now, this is something I thank him and his team for.

3. Norwich City 4-3 Leicester City – Sept 2010

This game was absolutely bonkers, and it came on my eighth birthday. Seven goals, a penalty, and a red card – it was an absolute classic at Carrow Road. It also introduced me to just how good Wes Hoolahan was, as I hadn’t seen him play for Norwich before that day. He scored twice, along with Adam Drury and Andrew Crofts – very much the icing on the birthday cake.

4. Oxford United 0-3 Norwich City – Feb 2026

By far the most recent inclusion on the list, but it was far too good of a day to miss out. From getting a 17-man minibus with fellow fans, to non-stop chanting, to watching Mo Toure score a hat-trick on his first start for the club. You can’t ask for much better than that – not a single thing went wrong, and we as football fans know just how rare that is!

5. Ipswich Town 1-5 Norwich City – Apr 2011

We beat that lot 5-1 in their own backyard, and made it 9-2 on aggregate against them in the Championship that season. Need I say anything more?
