Norwich City striker Josh Sargent is set to sign for MLS side Toronto FC, after the clubs agreed on a £15.5m transfer fee for the American.
The 25-year-old made his intentions clear that he no longer wanted to play for the Canaries after it was revealed by Norwich manager Philippe Clement that Sargent had texted him the morning of their FA Cup tie with Walsall, saying he was unavailable for the game, amid transfer speculation.
This led to Sargent being banished to train with the U21 side as a disciplinary action, and even though Toronto made an official bid in December, it was rejected as Norwich felt the bid was under their valuation of the American.
‘He knows why he is training with the youth team’
In relation to Sargent last month, Clement said: “I’m not going into details – but he knows why he is training with the second team and we will see how it evolves in the future.
“In football, you can never say never. If somebody comes tomorrow to pay £100m for Josh, he will go. Saying no to everything will not be the case, but only if it’s something that’s a win situation for the club.”
Sargent scored 56 goals for the Canaries in 157 games, and now his exit looks imminent as both Norwich and Toronto are currently finalising terms of the £15.5m deal, and Sargent will sign a five-year contract with the MLS side, who begin their new campaign at home to FC Dallas in the early hours of Sunday morning (UK time).
