Swindon Town manager Richie Wellens has backed Norwich forward Diallang Jaiyesimi to make the step up to the Premier League in the future.
Jaiyesimi is currently on loan to Swindon from the Canaries, but Wellens believes that he has what it takes to make it to the very top.
The 20-year-old has three goals and one assist for Swindon in League Two so far this season, in 15 appearances.
Speaking to the Swindon Advertiser, via The EDP, Wellens said:
I think he can play in the Premier League, 100%. He’s young, had a couple of loans and doesn’t want to sit in Norwich’s U23s. He wants to get out, work, graft, improve and play under pressure – they are all big things.
READ NORWICH VERDICT
It is hard to judge Jaiyesimi given that he has been playing at League Two level and there is very little data, aside from his goal contributions, to base anything off.
However, it is a good sign that his current manager at Swindon believes he has a big future, as he is the one seeing him every matchday and in training.
Norwich also have a good track record under Daniel Farke of bringing young players through. Ben Godfrey, Jamal Lewis, Max Aarons, Todd Cantwell and Adam Idah have all made their Premier League debuts this season after coming through the academy at Norwich, with the first four being regulars in the team this and last term.
This bodes well for Jaiyesimi going forward as it goes to show that Farke is willing to give young players a chance if they are good enough.
If Jaiyesimi can come back to Norwich in the summer and prove he has the ability to make the step up, he could be given an opportunity by the German boss.
